I was going to post a big shout-out to [livejournal.com profile] metahacker about his great advice re: fixing my gas cap cover, but the repair has failed. I got the J&B Quik, followed all instructions (including cleaning and sanding the break), and fixed it Thursday. I let it set for about 15 hours, and everything looked almost as good as new on Friday. Unfortunately, we came out of the event on Saturday and found the cover dangling again. We're back to the packing tape solution and looking for more advice. Ideas?

I bumped into the gas cap cover the other day while gassing up the car, and the bleeping thing broke off right in the middle of the hinge. It's being held on with packing tape right now. Do I: a) try to repair it with some sort of plastics cement (and if so, which one), b) go to the dealer and have it replaced, or c) just deal with how horribly ugly the hole is and live without it? (don't like the last one)

I cruise Waltham, so you don't have to ...

Hess, Prospect St = $2.81
New World, Lyman & Main = $2.81 (tho I don't like this place 'cuz you can't pay at the pump and the store reeks of smoke)
Gulf, River St (across from Shaw's) = $2.83
Exxon, corner of Bacon & Main = $2.87
Mobil, across from Exxon = $2.87
Shell, corner of Main & Warren (near Gore Place) = $2.87
Shell, corner of Beaver & Waverly Oaks = $2.87

Sure a lot more consistent than things were two weeks ago.
I managed to last all this time on the tank I got at $2.79 on Sep 1st. Yay!
