misc notes

Project Runway: When we first met Malan, I was convinced he was a pretentious ass along the lines of Stephen from TOP CHEF. I really didn't like him (either of those two guys), and was happy to see him go. However, I do now feel a little sorry for Malan after the revelations we got about him in this episode - his mother completely blowing off his design efforts as a child, and his loneliness and how much he valued being a part of the PR group. DSR doesn't buy it, and thinks Malan was just being manipulative at the end.

The Miss Universe pageant was last night. Miss USA's evening gown was nothing like any dress from the PR episode. Huh?
EDIT: found a photo of her in the dress http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5504/2884/320/TaraConner.jpg

DSR is right - if you saw the "pre-season" preview show, he auditioned each year for 3 years, and was a jerk one season, was offered a slot another and refused it, and then came in.

Poser.

I remember, and that was part of forming my dislike for him. Looking at his bio, he had a collection show in 2004, so he may have made the (common mistake) of thinking he was a shoo-in for season 1, and face it - you got to have an ego to be in that biz. Then he was "named as one of 12 new designers to watch for on the New York runway by Women’s Wear Daily in February 2005", so he probably thought he didn't need the show when season 2 came around. Now it makes me a little sad, 'cuz I think he honestly got a little glimpse of the kind of life and friends he would like to have, and got punted. I think his emotions were real. Tim Gunn's blog says he's sad Malan left, since Tim thinks he's really talented, so while I still think he needs to grow up socially, I hope good things happen for him.

To be honest I thought that the older guy should have gone. I know what we see is edited for max effect.BUT. He royaly screwed his partner from the very begining. Then to have one of the other's call her a feminazi made me angry. HE is no all that good I thought he was selfish.

The magic words to remember - the producers input on the decision trumps the Judges....

Having a nervous, tense freakazoid on the show makes for better TV. Not better design, but better TV. And this is a TV show, not a fashion show.

while you are 100% correct, I still think design should trump TV. Atleast Santini had style.

I seriously thought about getting NARF as a vanity license plate.
