thoughts on season 38 of Sesame Street
Aug. 24th, 2007 04:46 pmThe new re-mix of the Sesame Street theme is really bleah. It's lost all of its sunny, happy feeling in favor of a minor key change and a hip-hop beat. The visuals have changed from kids gathering together and playing and then running to Sesame Street to digital New York cityscapes. Yucko.
The show is using a lot more digital drop-ins (magic effects, odd creatures, etc), not always to good benefit. They have muppets, for heaven's sake - why was the squid digital instead of foam?!
It also seems like SS has become a far more magic-enabled space than it used to be. The Amazing Mumford used to be the only one actually doing magic, then they brought in the recurring character of Cinderella's Godmother. Last year they introduced the character of Abby Cadabby, an actual Fairy Godchild complete with magic wand and the ability to teleport. .
In good news, they have new Elmo's World spots including new bits with Mr Noodle, the fabulous Bill Irwin.
And Tina Fey was a cute pirate, but looked at the camera too much.
