nice moment this morning

Firetrucks go down my street a lot, as it's a main route. Sometimes when they take the corner near my house, things fly off the truck. A couple of years ago, they had an equipment door that wasn't locked, and a tool box flew out. They pulled over for a second, but I waved at them to tell them I'd get it and hold it for them, so they went on.

This morning as we were waiting for the school bus, I saw something fly off the truck as it went by. I was going to wait until the bus came before I picked it up, but I saw a car pull over and do it - it was a turnout coat. The guy was going the wrong way though (away from the station), and I saw someone going in the other direction indicate they'd take it back to the station.

I think it's great that people take care of the firefighters. It made me happy to live here.


(Yes, I do wish the firefighters would take care of their stuff, but mistakes happen, and this is only the third thing I've seen come off the truck in 9 years.)
