I used to love a web site called The Gallery of "Misused" Quoatation Marks. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated in years. But there's a new source for spotting and sharing your most entertaining and/or painful sightings.

[Is there someone with a paid account willing to do an LJ feed?]

how does one with a paid account do that?

I haven't done it, but my friend sent me this:

On LJ, go to http://livejournal.com/syn, with a paid account. At the
bottom of the page you find a box to enter the url
http://quotation-marks.blogspot.com/rss.xml
and then you will be given a chance to name it as an LJ feed. Normal LJ naming rules apply, adding _feed or _fd is just a naming convention that some folks use.

After all the nice things you have done for me, it is the very least I can do.

FYI, Anna still sleeps with the blanket you made for her. Every night she's home with me.

I remember encountering difficulty linguistically in the Midwest, because I was used to unexpected or superfluous quotation marks denoting sarcasm, and apparently in Iowa (where I lived, at least) they are used to denote emphasis.

So, for instance, when a co-worker put up a sign reading Such-And Such Is "Very" Important, my instinct was to think it was in fact not important at all, rather than extremely important.

Oy! What happened to simply underlining?
