woah - Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2007/08

Somebody's been watching way too many historical movies. Seriously - these are not gowns, they're costumes. Beautiful, though - very artistic.

What's the difference between last year's haute couture and this year's costume?

I disagree. Those are Statement dresses. If you're a very wealthy woman and you're going to an event, those are the dresses you want.

And I bet they're all over the runways come Oscar week.

Thank you for posting! Those are mostly gorgeous!

The ones which are like hoop skirts but cut in below the hipline and then flare out again, are kind of disturbing, though.

I like most of 'em. Everything old is New Look again. ;)

I'm pretty sure that I know exactly which movie.

"A New Kind of Love", released 1963, starring Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

A great deal of the movie takes place on fashion runways. Fun, not PC, I recommend it. I'm think that several these gowns are direct ripoffs from the movie.

sure

I mean I always wear musical instruments on my head.

(Though really -- looking at those I'm like having movie titles flit through my mind)

Actually, this is a surprising fashion show. Normally, even the models can't make the clothes look good, and no matter what the "influence" (movies or "technology" or whatever), the dresses generally cause me to feel emotions ranging from strong amusement to disgust. In this show, there are a number of the gowns that I would actually be willing - and even proud - to appear in public in (although perhaps with a bit less makeup).

And yes, I agree with the post above - these are *definitely* Statement Gowns. (Not that I would have any occasion to make such a Statement, these days. Or the money undoubtedly needed to make one . . .)
