One of my friends (
cvirtue?) mentioned a while back that none of the money for the "Support Our Troops" car magnets actually went to support our troops, which is something that bothered me too. Well, an article in my local paper today says that if you buy one for $2 at Bed, Bath & Beyond or AutoZone, 50% of the money actually goes directly to the USO. Hurrah!

They're even worse than the various breast cancer "fundraising" things "A person would have to make 100 separate credit card transactions to raise just $1.00 to be donated to the breast cancer cause." http://www.thinkbeforeyoupink.org/Pages/InfoMktgCampaigns.html

Date: 2004-12-21 08:55 am (UTC)I think I'd rather just give money to the USO directly rather than having people think that I'm another sheep with a ribbon on my car that's sending my money to Taiwan in a misguided attempt to support the U.S.
Oh, and in news of the priceless, I saw one of those ribbons with a typo. It said "God BLess the USA." Um...did no one notice that the L was improperly capitalized? Not even the consumers? *shaking head, grumbling about stupidity of fellow countryfolk*
